The mixed corporation was set up with an initial share capital of six million Euros (one thousand million pesetas, in 2001). The public share capital, class A, amounts to 60% of the total, and the remaining 40% is private capital, class B.
Of the class A capital, Barcelona city council initially put up 51% of the capital granting the company its municipal character, based on the global definition mixed economy municipal corporation. In 2004, these holdings were transferred to the private municipal company BIMSA (Barcelona Inversions Municipals, SA). The rest of the public share capital was put up by the Provincial Council of Barcelona, the second institution involved in creating the company.
The class B holding corresponds to private capital, with different financial entities and service companies involved with an interest in rehabilitating and modernising the historic centre of Barcelona. Due to their social importance, these include the company Iniciativa per a la Recuperació de Ciutat Vella, created for the purpose of promoting the commercial revitalisation of the historic centre of Barcelona.
